Groundbreaking Book, "Your Guide to Handling Flood Insurance Claims,"
Removes Veil from Flood Claims Process
Pensacola, FL – June 8, 2009 – Why do so many people get so confused whenever they have to deal with flood insurance and flood claims? It is precisely that question that prompted Attorney Samuel Bearman to write the book, "Your Guide to Handling Flood Insurance Claims."
Bearman says, "Flood insurance is the ultimate insurance paradox. There are thousands of flood insurance policies, but very few people understand them."
Along with co-author, Dennis Abbott, Bearman has simplified the flood claim filing process by providing a comprehensive, easy-to-understand guide. Other than some basic material issued by FEMA, this is the only book that explains the flood insurance system and how to successfully handle a claim."
My goal in writing the book with Dennis was to allow the layperson to go through the entire flood claim process on their own – and not struggle through it. It can be a daunting and confusing process and our book simplifies it without overlooking important details." Bearman says. "Judging from the feedback we’ve gotten so far, we are right on target."
Bearman insists attorneys can benefit equally as much from the book. "Flood claim law is a niche practice that not many lawyers are adept at handling. In fact, some lawyers don’t even know what the forms look like." He adds, "The book is unique in that one large section addresses the homeowner's side and walks them through the process; while the other section is a primer for attorneys on how to handle the claims."
Other groups who will find the book invaluable include insurance agents, insurance adjusters, public adjusters and generally anyone involved with flood claim insurance or the handling of the claims.
And how important is a book like this when we are now into hurricane season? "It's very relevant," Bearman replies. "Hurricanes traditionally bring fierce winds; but it's not uncommon for some areas to also experience severe flooding. This book can make dealing with the after-effects of a hurricane or flood a lot more manageable."
Bearman, an attorney from Pensacola, Florida, has handled flood claims from Hurricanes Erin and Opal, as well as from Hurricane Ivan, and is now involved in approximately 100 flood claims from Hurricane Ike in Texas. He has been a featured speaker for various lawyer associations and CLE groups on flood insurance and hurricane law. In addition, he has been quoted on television and radio, and in print and electronic media.
